To be eligible, a donor must meet the following criteria:
Must be in good physical and mental health
Between 18 to 60 years
Not less than 45 kg / 100 lbs
Body Temperature 98.4°F
60 – 100 / min
Systolic: 100-140 mmHg
Diastolic: 60-90 mmHg
Male: ≥ 12.5 g/dl
Female: ≥ 11.5 g/dl
At least 4 months ago
Donor must pass a brief health screening and medical interview before donation.
Use of sterile, single-use needles to prevent infection
Health screening (hemoglobin level, blood pressure, weight) to ensure donor fitness
Rapid TTI screening for five major infections (Hepatitis B, Hepatit C, HIV, Syphilis, Malaria)
Only 350–450 mL of blood collected
Eat a light meal and drink fluids before and after donation
Rest for 10–15 minutes post-donation
Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for the next 24 hours
Inform the staff immediately if feeling unwell
A healthy individual can donate whole blood at 4 months intervals
Provide ID and basic personal details
A doctor will check:
Give written consent after understanding the process
Have a light meal and drink plenty of fluids 1–2 hours before donation
Lie comfortably on a donor bed
Sterile needle inserted (8–12 minutes)
350–450 mL collected
Staff monitor you throughout
Rest for 10–15 minutes. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
